Durham Region is located east of the City of Toronto, within the Greater Toronto Area, and encompasses an area of approximately 2,590 square kilometres (1,000 square miles). There are eight lower-tier municipalities within Durham Region, which are the cities of Oshawa and Pickering, towns of Ajax and Whitby, Municipality of Clarington, and townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge.

In Durham Region, the major lakeshore urban communities are complemented by a unique mix of rural and agricultural towns, villages, hamlets and farms found in the northern areas. This unique mix of urban and rural offers an experience like no other—enjoy picturesque waterfronts, pleasant landscapes, rolling hills and tourist destinations that offer varying altitudes and delightful views.

Designed specifically for those travelling on two wheels, there are many businesses in Durham Region that offer cycling-specific services and amenities, including accommodations, attractions, cafes and restaurants, bike rental and repair shops, and other points of interest. Beginner or advanced cyclists, travelling for work, school, or recreation will be able to find a trail or route that allows you to discover, and enjoy, the spirit of Durham Region.
